The 2010 preparations begin!
The Bay Ridge CSA year has finally kicked off! We’re still two months or so away from our first vegetable pick-up, but around fifty people braved the wind and rain yesterday to attend our annual orientation session in order to learn more about the BRCSA and what we do.
The Bay Ridge CSA is supplied by Hearty Roots Community Farm in upstate New York’s Red Hook, and Benjamin Chute from the farm joined us at Fourth Avenue Presbyterian Church yesterday to answer everybody’s questions. With queries ranging from where the farm gets their seeds from, to how many people work on the farm, it’s clear that people are becoming more and more interested in the providence of the food they put on their plates.
It was great to welcome so many new people to our CSA group, as well as to see some familiar faces from seasons past. The CSA really is a great community, with people regularly sharing recipes and food tips, helping each other with pick-ups, and establishing friendships that go way beyond great food.
This blog is a new addition for this season, to bring you news and editorial about the CSA, the farm, and – of course – the produce. Whether it’s a great use for daikon radish, or the latest information on the next week’s farm share, you’ll hopefully find something interesting for you here.
Of course, the blog would be nothing without YOU! If you’ve got amazing family recipes to share, or a CSA-related tale to tell, we want to hear from you – just email Dylan at email hidden; JavaScript is required!
